Chulilla: an inland town that shows that Valencia is more than just the coast

The province of Valencia has a large number of cities and towns within it, each with its own magic. And one of the towns that stands out for its beauty and attractiveness is Chulilla . This small picturesque municipality is located in the Los Serranos region , 60 km from the capital. There you will find various places that reflect the life of past generations. In addition to the interesting infrastructures, Chulilla is a town that has a lot of history. Here each of its streets has vestiges of the footsteps of great men from other times.

Chulilla Castle
Visiting Chulilla Castle is taking a step back and transporting you to ancient times where various battles took place to conquer the territory. This castle was built by the Muslims and, at the time, it was used as an ecclesiastical prison by the bishop of Valencia. Furthermore, after the Christians managed to conquer Chulilla, the castle underwent different renovations between the 14th, 15th and 16th centuries. It was also a prison and a stately residence.

Chulilla Falls
El Salto de Chulilla is a large canyon located in the interior of the municipality. It has a height of 10 meters and a depth of 160 meters . For hikers this place is the ideal place to spend the morning. Here you can discover a new landscape and be in contact with nature. In addition, it has various places to rest or have a picnic with your family. It is ideal for taking unique photographs with a truly beautiful landscape. This canyon is part of the Pantaneros Route and the Loriguilla Reservoir.

Barony Square
This square is one of the most popular among the inhabitants of Chulilla. In the Plaza de la Baronía you can make connections with other roads or squares such as the Plaza de la Iglesia. In addition, you have the possibility of visiting the different shops that are around it. Likewise, this place is located in a place with little traffic so it is the perfect place for you to take a walk free from the noise of cars.

Blue Puddle
If you are going to visit Chulilla you cannot leave without first passing through its famous Charco Azul. It is a perfect place to go with your loved ones and spend a day full of laughter and fun. El Charco Azul is a beautiful lake that is characterized by its turquoise waters and rocky walls. Furthermore, if you want to have a snack, you have at your disposal different nearby restaurants where you can taste the typical dishes of the area.

Los Calderones Municipal Natural Site

Hanging Bridges Route
This is one of the most impressive and fun routes in all of Chulilla. On this interesting itinerary you can pass through various and unique bridges, from where you can have a wonderful view of the entire surroundings. Chulilla is a town that is characterized by having different tourist areas for hikers. The route begins in this municipality and ends when reaching the Turia canyon. Along the way you will come across different bridges, the highest one is 15 meters. You can not miss it.

Church of Our Lady of the Angels
The Church of Our Lady of the Angels is one of the most visited religious temples in Chulilla. It is located on Abadía Street and its structure dates back to the 15th and 16th centuries. Inside, it has a rectangular nave divided by two slopes and two doors that have the charm of bygone eras. You can also visit its chapel, the bell tower and the sacristy. All decorated in the baroque style, very similar to the Corpus Christi Church in Valencia.

Hermitage of Santa Barbara
The Hermitage of Santa Bárbara was built in 1364 , which is why it is considered one of the oldest temples in Chulilla . To visit it you have to go to the end of the town following the direction to Sot de Chera. On the other hand, regarding its structure, this is a Gothic style building that has geometric and simple lines. In front, a flared window and the arch-shaped door, where you can see the name of the Hermitage of Santa Bárbara.

Mules Backwater
In a small corner of Chulilla , called Peña Judía, you can find the Remanso de las Mulas. An ideal place to visit on vacation. To get to this place you have to go in the opposite direction to Charco Azul , cross the river twice and reach the Gollizno cave. From there you find the indications to get closer to the Remanso de las Mulas. Once there, you will enjoy the beautiful landscape that is around it and you can take a good dip in its crystal clear waters.

Vallfiguera ravine
The famous Barranco Vallfiguera is located south of the municipality of Chulilla. It was discovered in the 14th century. For people who love hiking this is one of the best places to visit. And, in addition to the beautiful landscape, the ravine has a path inside that was conditioned for the practice of this sport. Previously, it was called 'The road to the black hill' or 'The path of Castilla'. Likewise, cave paintings are also found in this place. Without a doubt an interesting place to visit.

When you try them you will want to return every year. One of its most emblematic dishes is the famous carne pot. However, the delicious Chulilla stoves, the cabbage stew, a glass of mistela and the Rin-Ran are not far behind. And, for dessert, you can't miss the almond cake and the sweet reguiño.
